A young woman's, (Johns), car breaks down near a country house where she becomes a
prisoner of the sinister Caligari, (O'Herlihy), and made to suffer frightening
humiliations. Eventually it transpires that the mystery is all in her mind, Caligari is
really her psychiatrist, and she is an old lady whose sexual fantasies he has been trying
to cure.
There is no link between this and the 1919 classic, instead this is a competent, if
somewhat predictable thriller.
The original ending which is no longer available left some doubt as to who was or wasn't
sane.

Sent to rescue survivors of a science expedition on another planet, the USS. Enterprise
encounters an alien race that have perfected the art of illusion. They kidnap the Captain,
(Hunter), to keep as part of an intergalactic zoo and encourage him to propagate and
create a race of human slaves.
This is the original pilot film for the television series "Star Trek". It has
only recently been shown in its entirety on television, but originally was used in
parts to create the two episodes titled "The Menagerie".

Intercut with shots of contemporary bikers, this film was an attempt at a social statement
on violence and racism, while also being an exceedingly strange western. The experiment
fails miserably. |

"Caltiki is the one, the only immortal God, when her mate appears in the sky, the
power of Caltiki will destroy the world" - Mayan inscription.
In 607 AD., the Mayan civilisation abandoned the city of Tikel, but archaeologist John
Fielding, (Merrivale), wants to know why and leads an expedition to the area. After they
discover a hidden sacred pool and dive in, one of them is stripped of flesh. After
destroying the creature that dwells there they take back a specimen to their Mexico City
laboratory to learn more of the jelly-like creature and the ancient Mayan inscription
found near the pool. The "mate" of the inscription turns out to be a comet that
animates the fragment with radioactivity causing it to grow to a gigantic size. After
rampaging through the town and threatening the archaeologist’s wife Ellen,
(Sullivan), and their child, the military destroy the monster with flame throwers.
Bava, who was to enter the Italian horror genre and become one of Italy's major
filmmakers, directed most of this despite credit going to Freda who was completely
uninterested in the production. Filmed in Spain and inspired by The
Quatermass Experiment, the effects are fairly good although the monster was created
from tripe, but the plot never leaves the arena of passable silliness. CALTIKI, THE

LA CAMARA DEL TERROR

A scientist, (Karloff), abducts women who he purposely frightens before drawing their
blood to feed to a stone creature living in a volcano. The scientist becomes seriously ill
after experimenting on the strange "living-rock" and his assistant, (Vega), and
an insane hunchback continue feeding the rock after his death. However, they feed the rock
too much blood and lose control of the creature.
A confusing plot imbued with mild sex and sadism.
The third of four terrible Mexican American co-productions made before Karloff's death in
1969 and while he was confined to a wheelchair. Karloff's scenes were shot in a Los
Angeles studio by co-writer Jack Hill. The other films are Macabre
Serenade, Invasion Sinestra, and La Isla de los Muertos. None of them were released until after
Karloff's death.
Not released in Britain until 1988.

Important NASA. personnel are involved in a car crash and should be dead, but aliens bring
them back to life to do their bidding. Their first task is to build a communication centre
in a cave near Cape Canaveral that will put the whole space research project in the hands
of the aliens. The aliens capture teenagers Tom, (Peters), Sally, (Connell), and others
who are out looking for the missing people, keeping them in their spaceship. Eventually a
professor also captured by the invaders discovers that polythene will destroy them, but
after blowing up the spaceship, the car the captives are escaping in explodes.
A mildly enjoyable film with plenty of NASA. footage to pad out the thin storyline and
laughable effects. Tucker is also the man responsible for the equally abysmal Robot Monster (1953).CAPERUCITA Y

English language version, and producer K. Gordon Murray imported the trilogy to America.

Captain Collier, (Allen), discovers Blyss' true identity.
A stylish Hammer remake of Dr.
Syn with impressive Olde England sets and some eerie marsh scenes.

handsome sword wielding vampire hunter, (Janson), his hunchback assistant, (Cater), and

youth with the blood from the villagers in Durward.
A mixture of gothic horror and a swashbuckling adventure, that can't decide whether to be
a comedy or a straight vampire film, doing neither genre any justice. However, unlike
other Hammer productions, this provides artsy images, a good atmosphere and a unique style
all it's own.

machine that also produces the oxygen the city needs. The survivors realise that Captain
Nemo plans to keep them there indefinitely to protect his secret city while a giant manta
ray hinders their efforts to escape.
A low budget fantasy adventure spoilt by a slow moving script and miscasting.

protected by magic in a tower outside the city. Sinbad is forced to combat an invisible
monster, birdmen and a multiheaded creature to save the kingdom and rescue Princess Jana,
(Bruhl), from marriage to the sultan. The magician Galgo, (Sofaer), aids Sinbad.
An enjoyable juvenile spectacle full of rich photography and some clever special effects.
One bizarre obstacle to Sinbad is a giant mailed fist that guards El Kareem's heart.

After an atomic war, New York in the 29th. century is a rubble strewn jungle-like ruin
inhabited by three tribes. The Norms live as cavemen, while the Mutes and their chief
Riddon, (Randell), raid the Norms for women so they can breed monstrous offspring, but the
two join forces to vanquish the brutal Upriver people who worship demons. One traitorous
Mute, (Schallert), helps the Upriver people invade New Jersey through a tunnel, but the
tunnel is flooded killing the invaders and Riddon falls in love with a Norm. A new era of
co-operation begins.
A poorly made fantasy from the producers who made The Man From
Planet X. The effects and the script are below par allowing for only a few derisive
chuckles.

Dr. Taylor has developed a new mixture that will replace present plastic surgery
techniques. The doctor experiments on one of his mental patients, Norma, but she paralyses
the doctor, and embarks on a mad rampage in the guise of her new beauty, however, her
looks will only remain for as long as she keeps applying the special formula. One day the
bottle breaks and she is killed while attempting to obtain more from Dr. Taylor. As she
dies an improved formula spills onto her disfigured face, making her beautiful again.CARMILLA

After a car accident, Mary Henry, (Hilligoss), has disturbing experiences. She seeks an
explanation from an abandoned fairground, where she finds that she is hovering between
life and death in a netherworld, and the spirits at the carnival are blocking her escape.
When her car is raised from the river her corpse is still in it.
This creative exercise for industrial filmmaker Herk Harvey was produced in Lawrence,
Kansas for less than $100,000 by a group of theatre owners that eventually became a cult
classic despite the predictable finale. There are several creepy moments and some good
photography lifting this above the usual cheap enterprise. The bad acting fortunately adds
to the dreamy, unreal atmosphere of the piece.
Remade in 1997.

that all the clues in an investigation of missing women, lead to the Bide-a-Wee rest home.
This unusual household is headed by the mysterious Dr. Orlando Watt, (Williams), and his
attractive sister, Virula, (Fielding), who are transforming the women into mannequins and
selling them on to clothes shops. Detective Bung meets the living mummy of Rubbatiti,
(Blake), a werewolf, and a couple of Neanderthal creatures, (Clegg & Cornelius),
before solving the crimes.
One of the hugely successful CARRY ON... series based on the 1933 classic The Mystery of the Wax Museum. This was
their best and twelfth film, the only one that poked fun at the horror genre, fuelled by
the Hammer studio's success. Although a bit silly at times, the usual puns and innuendo
are still good fun.
Plastech Ltd. issued toy rubber monsters called "Kreepy Kwivers" and sold in the
foyers of some ABC cinemas to coincide with ...SCREAMING's release.

The insane brother, (Soto), of a recently dead man is unsuccessfully hunting for some
hidden treasure in The Black Castle. He decides to recall all the relatives who were
present at the reading of the will in the hope that it will be found. However, high
tension cables around the castle prevent their escape and they are terrorised by
skeletons, spectres and a talking head on a plate. Eventually it is revealed that their
relative did not die and has staged all the events so that they may all acquire some
self-confidence.
Oiginally made as three seperate episodes, but released as a companion feature film in

A professor experimenting with assorted corpses manages to bring a mummy, (Chaney), back
to life, but it changes into a werewolf and wreaks havoc in the surrounding community. All
the scientist's failed experiments are looked after a cretaker, (Valdes), in a wax museum.
Originally a bad comedy of 1959, until Warren cut the humorous scenes, added shots with
American actors and stock footage from the Mexican La Momia
Azteca (1957), creating an equally bad horror film.
Warren is more deserving of the title of the worst filmmaker than Ed Wood. At least Wood
cared about his productions, Warren's have the appearance of being slapped together purely
for commercial reasons, making little sense and providing minimal entertainment. See also La Marca del Muerto.

A travelling group of circus performers arrive at Count Drago's castle where some of them
are mysteriously murdered. Drago, (Lee), is killing them and preserving their corpses to
revive later to do his bidding. He eventually becomes a victim of his own creation when he
accidentally cuts himself with a scalpel coated in his special embalming fluid.
Slightly better than the usual European offering due mainly to the few scenes directed by

A publisher, a photographer and five sexy models for a book promotion visit the owner of a
castle, (Hargitay). What the arrivals don't know when they decide to go into his torture
chamber, is that the owner will become his evil ancestor the Crimson Executioner and
utilise the various cruel devices on the visitors.
An entertaining film with all the elements expected from European exploitation. Hargitay
gives what is his best performance and the appearance of a laughable mechanical spider is
just one of the treats in store.
Hargitay is Jane Mansfield's husband.

A young couple's, (Clavillazo & Elizondo), car breaks down near an isolated castle
where they decide to spend the night only to be chased by a variety of monsters including
a gorilla, a mummy, a werewolf, the creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein's monster
and a vampire, (Robles).
Mexican comic duo Clavillazo and Elizondo add only more incredible dullness to this
abysmal haunted house comedy that features as many Mexican movie monsters as possible.
Sotomayor followed this with the equally unamusing La Nave de los
Monstruos (1959).
Remade as Frankenstein el Vampiro y Compia (1961).

The same team are responsible for Destination: Inner Space.
The ad campaign offered a free funeral if you dropped dead during the film.

This is so badly constructed that it wasn't released for several years.

A group of young people led by a hedonistic baron, (Lemoine), stumble upon the castle of
Count Von Saxon, (Vernon), who is busy killing young girls for their organs to try and
revive his dead daughter.
Although this has the bonus of actual footage of open-heart surgery, the ridiculously
dubbed dialogue ruins whatever small potential the film might have.

People that made little use of Shelley's obvious talents, although her first

A crew of astronauts encounter a two million-year-old civilisation dwelling within the
Moon, but a lack of oxygen has dwindled their numbers to only seven. The cat-women tribe
of telepathic stereoscopic Hollywood cover girls have previously influenced Helen Salinger
to join the rocket crew to lead the men to their lair so that they can learn of the space
rocket's construction. One catwoman betrays her race when she falls in love with an
astronaut, (Tufts), and is punished by death. The remaining crew shoot the alien women and
overcome two horned spiders in a cave to escape.
Unbearable schlock that is thought by many to be one of the worst films ever made.
Zimbalist initiated an unsuccessful law suit against the radio show "My Little
Margie" in which one of the characters saw a film titled "Cat Women From Outer
Space".

A dull and poorly scripted film with only Karloff's minor performance to providing any
interest.
Not released until 1971, after Karloff's death.
